Sunday

Sunday was a big day out at the block. The spetics and leach drains were put in underground. It was a long day for the boys working.
It's great to see actual progress out there, it's been a long time coming!

After a few days off the retaining wall blocks will start to be laid. This will take some time as it's pretty big.

We have to start thinking about exterior finishes, we will soon be ordering a heap of stuff. This is the area that is hard for me as decision making is not my strong point. There is alot of choice out there and trying to visualise the final product is difficult. Let's hope we make decisions we will still like in 10 years because we are only planning on building once!

It's begun

We have offically started. Earthwork, retaining wall and spetic/leach drain work is underway.
It's all very exciting but alot of work for M as he is doing it all!
Here are some pictures of what's happening out at the block at the moment.

Here We Go

This is my first blog entry so please be patient. After seeing several other blogs on people's experience with home building I was inspired to write my own. I am keen to keep a journal of our journey. Hopefully I can keep it up!

Here is where it all started:

In 2008, a few month's after our oldest daughter was born we purchased almost 6 acres of land in Gelorup. M was keen for a bit of space and a 'large' shed (of course!).
Now almost three years later we are actually ready to start building our Dream Home!
The decision to Owner Build was made from the get go. Financially it was the best option for us and M would be able to complete parts of the house himself.
In July 2010 we finally came up with a draft plan that we both agreed upon and sent it to a local drafting/design service.
Six months later we have the final plans drawn up, council approval and are just waiting for the bank loan to be finalised.

We are ready to finally start building.

(The part I forgot to mention is that we have two children under the age of 3 and M works away alot!....this should be interesting)
