Roof Complete

Here is the latest update with some pictures!

By the end of today the roof will be complete. It looks heaps better with the capping done.

Here are some random snaps taken today:

The verandah is going here. It starts at the alfresco and wraps around all the way to the window down the end - Hope that makes sense???

Windows Are In!

Today the window's were put in. So we are another very small step closer to completion. Unfortunately I didn't take any real good photos of the windows.
The glass looks really black here - it is a darkish glass but doesn't look this dark in real life.

The electrical layout and markings were also completed today. So quite a productive day at the block!

Unfortunately the roof has not yet be finished.  One of the guys working on the roof yesterday had a bad accident. He split his face open, he was so lucky to be wearing sunglasses or he would have lost his eye. It is such a dangerous job roofing. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Will post up the finished roof photos when it is done.

Finally An Update!

Hi everyone. It's been a long time between posts.
We have a roof - well almost!

Today was a great day out a the block. The roof sheets started to go up. It's been a really long time coming.
The roof frame was a massive job and wasn't without issues. The main one was the so called 'computer glitch' from the company who made the roof trusses and frames. Thankfully M was able fix it all up but it took a lot of extra time.

Here are some pictures taken today:

Anyone for the dusty roof look!

The roof is a Colourbond colour called  Monument.
It looks a bit darker in the photos than it is in real life. It a strange colour. It's not black, but sort of a charcoal with a dark blue in it.
We are really happy with the colour and can't wait to see it finished.

Retaining Wall

The 'Great Retaining Wall' is now under construction. It's a huge wall measuring about 40m x 32m. The foundations for the wall have been complete for months and months so it is great to see the wall finally appear!

Here are some snaps to prove it!

Brickwork Finished, Now Onto The Roof.

Today the Brickies finished out at the house.  The guys did a really good job and were patient with all the window issues. Thanks boys!

What's next on the long list of things to do.........Roof Frames

I managed to get a photo of some of the roof trusses when they were delivered.

But will get a photo in the next few days of the trusses on the roof. M started today and in half a day they managed to get 8 trusses up. Which was pretty good going considering it rained on an off.

The weekend and next week is all about the roof. Can't wait to get the house to lock up!

I've added these photos of the brick work finished, but they aren't very good photos. I'm finding it hard to get a shot of the whole house without stuff in the way.

Brick Work Has Started

The brick work has started, which is great to see.
The last few weeks out at the block have been crazy to say the least. This build has certainly not been without dramas. It seems new problems are arising daily.
I'll take this opportunity to say a big thank you to the guys who have been working out there with M. You have been very patient and we thank you for all your hard work.

Now back to the bricks. Here are some pics.

The bricks are called 'Florentine Limestone' and I am happy with the way they look. The brickies are doing a great job laying them and I can't wait to see it all finished.

Now that the frames are up it is great to be able to walk through the house and check out the layout. I am mostly happy with what we have come up with. There are a few things that I wish we had of changed, minor things but I will always see them!

Once the bricks are up the next step is the roof.....
I wonder what issues will rise....there is bound to be heaps!!!

We Have MORE Walls

Just a few more internal walls to go and then course to fix a few mishaps!!!

It is great to be able to walk through the layout of the house and start to get a feel for the room sizes.

WE HAVE WALLS

Today is an exciting day for us as we finally have walls!

The frames were stood up today. It's not complete but within a few days we will have the shell of our house.

I've been busy choosing and ordering window frames, door frames and the front door. This has been time consuming but that is due to my poor decision making.

The brick layers are booked in to start in about a weeks time and the window frames and bricks are getting delivered next week.

Things are starting to move......will keep you posted.

The Shed

The Shed was the first building to go up on the block. I think it has been up for about a year.

I thought I would add it to the blog, as to some it is the most important part of the block!

Just recently power was run down to the shed, so now we have lights!
The shed has been used to build the steel frames for the house. M is looking forward to decking out the shed into the 'Man Zone'.

Here are some photos of THE SHED.

WE HAVE A FLOOR

Today has been 'Concrete Floor Day' out at the block. We finally have a slab!

A lot of work has gone into getting to this point. We are so happy to have completed Stage 1 of the build.

38 cubic metres of concrete got pumped into the slab today. That was for the actual house. The garage, verandah and alfresco are yet to be done.

Here are some photos:

House Pad minus the garage at the front and verandah along the side and alfresco at the back.

Now for the steel framing. M is going to be busy..... stay tuned, we hope to have walls soon!

Easter Update

The Easter weekend was a busy one out at the block, and the work continues to go ahead as we aim for the concrete pad to be completed.

The house was marked out and the footing dug over the Easter break and since then the footings have gone down and the formwork for the house pad is underway. As usual there have been plenty of set backs.

M has been working so hard and has had the help of some special people (you know who you are!).

With a bit of luck the concrete pad will be down by the end of next week. Just can't wait to actually be able to stand on it!

Marking out the house!

Footings done and formwork started.
